One good thing for us Americans, we are leaving longer. Health issue cost is in everybody’s mind this days. When it comes to hearing aid, most people find out their insurance do not cover hearing aids. Some insurance do pay but, in our clinic. We have to call the Insurance Co. for our client and ask what’s covered and whats’ not covered. So in a nutshell we do this on an individual basis.

If you are on Medicare, they do not have coverage for hearing aids. We already mention private insurer will not pay. So make sure the clinic your’ getting the hearing aid from help you by asking your insurer what coverage you have as far as hearing aids cost are concern.

There is some help in a form of Tax Break. Sen Tom Harkin(D-Iowa) has reintroduced Hearing Aid Tax Credit legislation in the Senate(S 1019), which would expand coverage to people of all ages who have hearing loss, according to the Hearing Industries Association (HIA), Washington. Hearing Aid Tax Credit legislation in the House (HR1646), introduced in March by Rep Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY), has already attracted 70 co-sponsors-11 of whom are members of the House Ways and Means Committee.

The Hearing Aid Tax Credit would provide assistance to many of the 32 million people who need hearing aids to treat their hearing loss. If enacted, S1019 would provide a $500 tax credit per hearing aid every 5 years for all people purchasing a hearing aid. The House legislation would provide a credit for children and people age 55 and older. While hearing aids can treat 95% of all hearing losses, only 22% of those who could benefit from them actually use them, according to the HIA.

If you want to support this Bill. Visit www.hearingaidtaxcredit.org were you can also find links to write your congressman.

OK! Everybody know how hot it is out there and more of you are stopping by for us to clean your aid. Allot of you are also asking what is the best way to clean and disinfect your hearing aids. With everybody concern about transmission of disease. Question from most. Will I get infected wearing my hearing aid thru the transmission of disease?

Since writing these questions down. I went ahead and did some research to answere this questions. According to a recent research related to hearing aid hygiene has shed new light on how patients need to properly clean their heairng aids and /or earmolds. A wide range of bacteria and fungi have been found to grow on hearing aid surfaces. some of the germs are consistent with what is normally found in the ear but many of the recovered germs are not and are considered unhygienic. Because the ear is a dark, warm, moist place and hearing aids are worn in the ear, bacteria and other germs can easily grow on hearing aid surfaces. Since some of these bacteria or germs are not part of your ear’s normal environment, they can potentially irritate the lining of your ear canal, and cause itching, redness, swelling, pain, or result in ear odor.

Because these devices are worn in your ear, it is very important to make sure that your hearing aids or earmolds are cleaned and disinfected properly as follows:

1. Wipe heaing aid or earmold surfaces with a tissue.

2. Disinfect the hearing aid or earmold surface with a non-alocohol based disinfectant towelette.

In addition, hearing aids or earmolds should not be casually placed in purses, pockets countertops, etc. After use, hearing aids and earmolds should be properly cleaned and disinfected, and then stored in an appropriate case for later use.

Simply wiping the hearing aid with a cloth or tissue is not enough to get rid of the bacteria or germs. In addition, your hearing aids or earmolds are made from special materials that require special cleaning. Alcohol pads should not be use to clean hearing aid or earmold surfaces as it will ruin surfaces relatively quickly. Your audiologists can provide you with non-alcohol products that are designed to disinfect hearing aid surfaces.

Remember: your hearing aids or earmolds will become contaminated with bacteria and other germs. Just like dentures and contacts, it is important to use an appropriate hygiene routine to clean and disinfect hearing aids and earmolds.

Ok now that everybody is updated how to clean their hearing aids. OK! Everybody know how hot it is out there and more of you are stopping by for us to clean your aid. Allot of you are also asking what is the best way to clean and disinfect your hearing aids.
